Bio
Seth C. Lewis is the inaugural Elcan Jefferson Scholars Foundation Distinguished Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Media Studies at the University of Virginia. Previously, for 10 years, he was the founding holder of the Shirley Papé Chair in Emerging Media at the University of Oregon. His research explores the social implications of emerging technologies like AI for journalism, media work, and public life. He is co-author of News After Trump (Oxford University Press) and, most recently, Journalism in the Age of AI (Polity), which examines what AI means for news and democracy. He also has a forthcoming book (American Cynicism) that explores why Americans have grown so distrustful of knowledge institutions such as media, medicine, and higher education. He writes and speaks widely on trust, technology, and the future of public knowledge.
