Undergraduate Research Assistant: Visual Culture & Qualitative Analysis
Archiving Visual Narratives is a research project examining the role of visual media in documenting, shaping, and contesting political narratives during the Iranian uprising beginning in December 2025. The project seeks to develop a curated digital archive of photographs, videos, memes, AI-generated images, and other visual materials circulated across social media platforms. Combining digital archiving, visual culture research, and qualitative analysis, it investigates how images communicate political and cultural meaning, how visual symbols and narratives emerge and evolve, and how images are reproduced, appropriated, and transformed through digital circulation. The project will contribute to scholarly publications and the development of a public-facing digital archive.
We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious undergraduate research assistant to support qualitative research and visual analysis for a project examining political imagery and digital visual culture. The student will help analyze collected visual materials, identify recurring symbols and narrative patterns, investigate relationships among images, and contribute to the development of research findings.
